Die Frauen der Familie Carbonaro – The Women of the Carbonaro Family

Goldmann

Pina wants to rule. Anna wants to sing. Maria wants to wear trousers.

Three women from the German-Italian Carbonaro family tell their story: they tell of an archaic Sicily in the late 19th century, of the curse of their ancestors, of miracles, illusions and small triumphs. Of love and violence, of beautiful tailors, charlatans and sad ghosts. They tell of flying foxes and crows, of Sicily and Germany, of home and foreignness, bombing nights and bee stings - and of how happiness found them again and again. Mario Giordano brings to life the turbulent fates of three women who unwaveringly follow their path to a self-determined life. And he takes us on a journey from Sicily to Germany that spans an entire century.
