The world is coming to an end. But until then, the narrator in Elias Hirschl’s new novel will continue working at the clickbait farm Smile Smile Inc., writing meaningless listicles designed to generate clicks. (Number 7 will make you cry!) They are just as trivial as the memes and YouTube videos her colleagues produce. Or the start-ups that her boyfriend Jonas founds on a weekly basis while the city burns.
Political, prophetic and funny… at least until the laughter threatens to choke you.
